Letter: Amnesty disrespects U.S. Constitution

Editor:
The president apparently views the 2008 elections as a coronation. His administration has shown less respect for our Constitution and the rule of law than any in my memory, which goes back to President Truman.
The Constitution requires that, as Chief Law Enforcement Officer, he enforce all the laws of the land, not just those that are convenient - or enhance his re-election bid. With his questionable executive order giving amnesty to over a million illegal immigrants, he has accomplished the opposite of what he claims to want - an orderly and cohesive immigration law.
From 2006 to 2010 the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress, two under Mr. Obama's "reign." He had the power to push through comprehensive reform. He declined, instead choosing to proclaim, without the pesky problem of seeking Congressional consultation, a new status for illegal immigrants.
Politicians have become the most mistrusted individuals in America and polls show that mistrust and fear of the loss of our Constitution is at record highs. SB 1070 was an expression of that fear. Many other states are waiting to pass similar laws if it is ruled constitutional.
Obama's order is meant to subvert those efforts. Telling a reporter that it (his order) "is the right thing to do for the American people" is the reaction of a "benign ruler." Hopefully, enough citizens are tired of being told what is best for them, rather than what is lawful, that they will bring this reign to an end.
