Letter: Criticism of Ryan is laughable

Editor:

In his letter Aug. 15, Mr. Nelson tries to paint a dismal portrait of Rep. Paul Ryan and parts of his assessment are laughable when he, Mr. Nelson, is trying to be serious.

Foremost in his criticism is Paul Ryan's inexperience and for someone that has backed President Obama, who has absolutely no experience in the private sector and has been unleashed on the world blaming the United States for all the rest of their ills; that has to be either a joke, a mistake or attempted misinformation. President Obama had the least qualifications for president of anyone in history of the United States and after he has served nearly a full term as president we still don't know him.

Part of the condemnations of Ryan is that he voted for the GM and bank bailouts that were sold as being necessities by the Obama Administration and, in fact, I too have disagreed with him on that point albeit for a different reason; I believe they should have allowed the auto industry to fail because it was their own stupidity and cowardice that allowed the unions to obtain concessions that broke the company.

The way it is, we the taxpayers will be revisited to bail them out again. As I've written before: "Too big to fail is political mumbo-jumbo meaning steal from the taxpayers and tell them it is for their own good." The banks were a different situation because through the quasi-government corporations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the federal government had insured the bank loans thus the federal government was already on the hook to cover those loans. Years of Democrat stonewalling kept much of that secret.

In legislation under our current system, there are always problems of choices because in order to support something that you believe to be good you probably will have to vote for something that you know is not good; that is the way our lawmaking process is set up.

Ryan's plan on Healthcare pretty much mirrors the plan that the politicians have, which is far better than either "ObamaScare" or Medicare/Medicaid, and will reduce the cost in part by having the patients automatically monitor the costs, which will knock down fraud considerably.

Paul Ryan is respected and has been highly praised by members on both sides of the aisle: For his intellect, his savvy of finance and his character, this first and foremost in all of their praise, is his honesty. So, Mr. Nelson, pardon me if I take your criticism of vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan with a grain of salt.
